How to Clean Grease
Grease build-up can be especially
difficult to clean and it requires daily
maintenance.
For those of you who have a backsplash,
you know, the one you throw a piece of spaghetti at to
determine if it’s done!
Well, that backsplash can become just
as greasy as the stovetop.
While it is recommended to clean the
stovetop and backsplash after washing the dishes, sometimes
you’re just not in the mood, right? One day you notice these
pearl-like dots on the backsplash and decide to clean
it.
Unfortunately, the grease just doesn’t come
off.
Here’s a tip: Take some white vinegar
and either place it in a spray bottle or put some in a small
bowl and with a clean rag scrub the grease
off. It does
work. You
can clean the backsplash, the stove vent, the stove and
grates, walls, and ceiling.
Now that you have effectively removed
the grease, the best rule of thumb is to clean the stove and
the surrounding area at least once a week. In this way, the grease
will not become so unmanageable that you will waste several
hours scrubbing it off. Just use dish soap and
water, and it can easily be wiped off on a daily basis or
whenever you cook.
Grease inside the stove is another
matter. You may need to utilize specific cleaning agents for
that. However,
if you want to clean “green,” this will require weekly
maintenance.
You can take out the shelves and scrub
them with Brillo or a hard bristled brush (if they are
really grimy), or you can clean them with vinegar as well,
and then leave them to soak in plain water in the kitchen
sink.
Always read the directions when using
any type of cleansing agent inside your stove and
broiler.
Remember to keep the room well-ventilated, and leave the
stove and broiler doors open while the cleaning agent is
working its magic.
