How to Clean Aluminum Siding

One of the advantages of aluminum siding is that it is virtually maintenance free.

At least once every year, you must make it a point to clean your aluminum siding and then you must give it a fresh coat of paint to make it appear new. Due to constant weathering, you will often notice oxidation or chalking on your aluminum siding.

This is the time to clean and repaint it. Although you cannot prevent chalking, you can definitely remove chalking from aluminum siding. 

You have to turn off the power, the lights, and electricity connections to avoid accidents. 

All the windows and doors must be tightly shut and, while spraying, you need to keep the spray off the windows and doors. 

The best way is to start the cleaning process at the top and work your way to the bottom of the Aluminum siding. Rinse off any trace of cleaning solution. It’s best to rinse off one portion before moving on to another position. Then let the siding dry naturally. 

You have to use a good quality pressure washer or a powerful hose if you want to remove the dirt and grime thoroughly.  To 6 gallons of water, mix a third of a cup of powerful laundry detergent and your cleaning solution is ready.

With the hose or pressure washer, direct the solution towards the siding. Using low pressure is more than enough as otherwise it will dent the aluminum siding. 

Take a soft bristled brush and gently but firmly scrub the siding. This will help clean it. Then with the help of the hose, you can clean off the siding and then rinse it well.
