How to Clean a Washing Machine
Cleaning a washing machine is a bit
like an oxymoron, isn’t it?
Cleaning the cleaner?
Needless to say, the interior tends to
gather some residue from continuous use, and the outer part
of the machine certainly needs a light cleaning every so
often.
To clean the sides and top if a washing
machine, all you need is a clean cloth and liquid
soap. Nothing
too harsh, and simply wipe it down.
The inside of the washing machine will
also need to be cleaned as well. After each wash, take a
dry cloth and wipe down the entire inside barrel.
Ensure that you clean up any spilled
detergent or powder. This can build up and make
it that much harder to clean next time.
By the way, have you ever gone to a
Laundromat and as you pass some machines they tend to give
off an odd odor? Well, the same thing can
happen to the one you have at home.
If you notice, the machines (both
washer and dryer) in the Laundromat are left open after each
use. This
enables any odors to escape from within. So too, if you have an
odor in your washing machine, you can just keep the doors
open or use baking soda and run an empty load on the hot
water cycle.
Check the manufacturer’s manual under
care and maintenance. The more you know how to
sufficiently care for the machine, the less time you will
spend cleaning it or wondering what that awful smell
is.
If you use a Laundromat, there isn’t a
whole lot you can do other than switching machines or
notifying the manager about a specific problem or
odor.
But if you own a washing machine, not
only are you saving money but you can save even more by
incorporating proper care and maintenance.
