How to Clean a Soft Top
If you own a convertible with a soft
top, here are some important recommendations on how to clean
and maintain it.
1.
Wash the top yourself. Never use a car
wash.
2.
If your car is not garaged, you may find an accumulation of
debris or bird poop on your soft top.
Use the brush attachment of a vacuum
cleaner to first get rid of the debris; then remove the
remaining particles with water.
3.
Never use any harsh chemicals or
detergents.
4.
Wash the entire soft top in one
go. Ensure the
entire car is wet beforehand.
5.
Use mild soap such as Ivory liquid and warm water to do the
job. You can
purchase a soft brush to wash the top and scrub off hard to
remove spots.
Rinse the soft top using a hose. Remove excess water with a
sponge.
6.
Always wash the soft top in a shaded area.
7.
Do not use cloths or towels of any kind to either wash or
dry the soft top.
8.
Allow the soft top to completely dry. Experts also recommend you
purchase a “re-water repellent” to protect the soft
top.
Lastly, do not put the top down and/or
cover the soft top when it is wet or damp. This action can cause
mildew to grow on the surface and subsequently can discolor
or cause damage to the soft top.
For more information, check the car’s
manual under care and maintenance.
