How to Clean a Cat
If you want to know how to clean a cat,
one answer that comes to mind is “very
carefully.”
However, since cats pretty much are a
self-grooming lot, there are some grooming details that have
to be attended to.
1.
Just as there are special grooming supplies for dogs, there
are just as many items available for cats. Ensure that the cat’s hair
is free from mats by regularly combing their
fur.
2.
Fleas can also be a problem for cats, and it will require
that you treat your cat to a bath. Fill a sink with warm
water and utilizing special soap and/or shampoo designed for
cats, wash the feline slowly and
methodically.
Avoid using any spraying device as this may scare the
cat.
Ensure the cat is thoroughly wet and
then apply the soap or shampoo. Be careful not to allow
any water to enter the cat’s ears. Dry the cat with a towel
and he will continue the process of
self-grooming.
3.
To clean a cat’s ears, ask your vet an ear cleaning
solution. Use a
cotton ball to clear any dirt or debris from the
ear. Be
careful, however, not to invade the ear canal.
4.
There is toothpaste designed just for cats. You can apply the
toothpaste to a piece of gauze that is sterile and, using
your index finger, gently clean his front
teeth. Also
check the gums to ensure they are not
bleeding.
5.
There is a new product out that can trim a dog’s and cat’s
nails without cutting too far down as to cause them undue
pain. The
PediPaws nail trimmer is great because it will only trim the
tip of the nail and not go any further.
In fact, it is not a cutting tool but
is more akin to a nail file in that it does not cause any
discomfort to your cat.
For those of you who own cats, you
probably have a set routine. There is not only an
abundance of information on how to clean cats online, but if
you have any questions or concerns you can always contact
your Vet.
