How to Clean a Burnt Saucepan

One of the most frustrating aspects of using a saucepan is that inevitably it burns.

While there are some who feel it’s not worth the time or effort to salvage it, there are others who have come up with proven methods to save this expensive item. Here are their tips:

1.         Pour coca cola into the saucepan, boil it for about five to 10 minutes, and let cool.  The acidity in the coke will effectively clean the saucepan.

2.         Laundry powder.  Place a small cup of this powder into the saucepan, and fill it half way with water.  Boil it for about 5 minutes.  Run under water and clean.

3.         Another method (tried and true by our parents) is to run it under medium hot water and use a Brillo pad to clean the saucepan.

4.         Fill half the saucepan with water, boil, and the burnt remains will melt away.

5.         Fabric softener has also been used to clean a burnt saucepan.  Simply pour half into the pan with water, let it soak, and it apparently works just as well.

6.         Use a combination of vinegar and water, fill the saucepan halfway, boil, and then run under water as you clean.

7.         Another method that is recommended is to add one tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda and two tablespoons of detergent.  Add water and boil for up to ten minutes.

8.         Pour vinegar in the pot.  Add a cleanser such as Spic and Span inside the pot. Let it stay overnight and then wash the next day.

Note: Using steel wool on certain types of saucepan can easily scratch the surfaces.

Depending on the type of saucepan you have, there may be different ways to clean them; however, the general consensus is that coca cola works the best.
