How to Clean a Bathroom
You’re standing in front of the
bathroom door probably dreading the fact you have to clean
this room today.
It can sometimes be a back-breaking,
knee-hurting pain in the neck, but nonetheless it has to be
done.
Cleaning a bathroom, depending upon its
size, can take about an hour or more. Well, no use looking at it
– might as well jump right in.
With the bathroom cleaning agents,
clean rags, broom, step ladder, bucket and mop (Swifter is
better….besides, you can hum the tune as seen on the TV ad)
gathered at your feet, it’s time to begin.
1.
Shower/Tub.
Since this will probably take the longest, might as well
start here. If
you have curtains, remove them for cleaning. If you have shower doors,
clean them first. Remove the items on the
shelf used to place shampoos, body bath, etc.
Clean the tiles, scrub the tub, clean
the shower head and fixtures as well. Clean the top of the shelf
as well as underneath (lots of scum builds up there).
Replace the shower curtain liner and curtains and/or clean
them thoroughly.
2.
Toilet Bowl.
Clean inside the bowl thoroughly as well as the flusher, and
then proceed to clean the outside of the bowl from top to
bottom. Don’t
forget to clean behind the bowl (tough to get to, but
necessary).
3.
If you have a vent in your bathroom, clean the outside of
the vent with soap and water. If you have a skylight,
you may need to remove the plastic cover and wash it with
soap and water as well as the cleaning the outer rim of the
skylight itself with a wet rag.
4.
Do you have a wall mirror in your bathroom? If so, you can clean this
and other mirrors with vinegar and water or Windex (whatever
you prefer).
5.
If you have a Swifter duster that attaches to a pole, you
can dust the entire ceiling surface as well as woodwork,
behind the toilet bowl, and the entire floor before wet
cleaning.
6.
For those of you who have a window in your bathroom, take
down the curtain and wash and/or replace the curtain, clean
the window inside and out if you can.
7.
The medicine cabinet is next on the list. Take everything out and
either clean the shelves or reline them. Place everything
back (get rid of anything you do not need or items that have
expired). The
cabinet under the bathroom sink is next. Apply the same
process.
8.
The bathroom sink should be scrubbed and cleaned as well as
the fixtures.
9.
If you have a bathroom rug or mat, hopefully you used it to
protect your knees when you cleaned the tub. Now you can take the mat
out and clean.
10.
Finally, before you sweep and wash the floor, survey the
area to ensure you cleaned everything including light bulbs,
light fixtures, pictures, etc.
Take out the trash can and wash it,
then line it before retuning it to its proper
place. Now you
can wash the floor starting from the furthest end of the
room to the door. Voila! You’re
done!
